My name is Meredith Marsh. I’m a copy editor and writer working as a director of communications.
Turning complexity into clarity, one word at a time.
I’m a communications leader with more than 14 years of experience in writing, editing and design. I specialize in transforming complex ideas into clear, compelling content that resonates with diverse audiences.
From writing and editing to design, my skill set covers a lot of ground. I like to go beneath the surface to understand how things work — like how a book gets made or how a complex topic is demystified through great writing. With both attention to detail and an eye on the bigger picture, I make the complicated coherent.
After graduating with degrees in art history and historic preservation, I spent five years working in the green building industry. Finding an affinity for the marketing and communications aspects of my roles, I transitioned my career to work in communications full time. I went on to earn a master’s in professional writing while working full time.
editing.
Copy editing is my superpower. My experience includes editing publications with contributions from multiple authors into cohesive final products. I champion ethical writing that equitably communicates information to audiences of varying expertise, backgrounds and native languages. In my current role, I edit a digital newsletter delivered six times per year for an audience of more than 3,000 subscribers and an annual print publication with more than 4,000 copies printed since inception.
writing.
I am passionate about communicating complex concepts to diverse audiences through clear communication. I have held professional writing positions managing internal and external communications in the private, nonprofit and higher education sectors. I’ve delivered everything from long-form news features to marketing materials, social and web copy.
design.
I can see extra spaces between words and notice when a layout is a few pixels off. My keen eye for detail makes me an invaluable asset to any design project. I’ve helped shepherd four new websites from concept to reality, including consulting on brand identity development and deployment. I’ve contributed to four branding and rebranding projects and the development of numerous print and digital marketing campaigns.
I edit Carnegie Mellon Architecture’s annual publication of student work, “EX-CHANGE,” including this 2022 edition designed by Jimmy Luu and Ryan Menefee of Group Project.
I am passionate about communicating complex concepts to diverse audiences through clear communication and design.
I’m currently based in Pittsburgh, Pa. When I’m not editing and wordsmithing, you can find me devouring the footnotes in an annotated edition of 19th-century literature or dreaming about my next trip to Maine.
